Standing Pat, Looking to NextSeason
I've spent a long time trying to

work on a piece about fixing our defence. I'd used to try and figure out who we ought to target and, looking at who would be the best fit and who we'd be most likely to be able to now I think, maybe screw it?I feel like a simple and immediate solution to make our team immeasurably better would be to do whatever it takes to find an elite partner for Karlsson. Failing that, adding a very solid second pairing D could really solidify things on the back end. That being said, I'm not sure this is the year for it. I think there are a few reasons to maybe ride out the storm, see if the ship can right itself with the pieces we have, and then look at how things shape up at the start of next first reason to wait and see how things go is the supposedly outstanding draft class of 2015. There are comparisons being made to the star-filled draft of 2003 The young guys should hopefully) progress. By next season the development of guys like Zibanejad, Stone, Lazar and Hoffman could bring an exceptional secondary element to our team if they take a step forward. The way Stone, Hoffman and Lazar are playing currently makes the future look pretty bright, and these guys are only a few of some very talented young players in our system. I expect a lot of these three players in particular, and still believe in the likes of Pageau, Puempel and Claesson to eventually make the jump. But I feel like for Ottawa's current "kid line" a full season in the NHL could mean phenomenal things from any or all of them next year. That being said Ottawa Store, we still don't exactly have a truly elite prospect waiting in the wings that could really shake things up for this club- which speaks to my earlier point of the positives of a bottom 5 'll still have our core locked up long some secondary pieces in a quantity-quality trade, or looking to make a splash in the draft won't take away from the great core of Turris, Mac, Ryan, Karlsson, Andy/Lehner moving forward. At this point, I still feel like all of these guys are absolute studs, it's the supporting cast that is letting us , I'm saying that being crappy this year isn't necessarily costing us anything except a year of crap. All of the really important guys are around for at least a few more years. The things that have the capacity to make us great will still be at our disposal. The difference is that next year, we may have a bit more leverage in terms of our ability to add pieces to that very good core and be far more competitive.A real cap crunch may be recent reports have speculated that the cap may not go up at all next year. This could mean great things for a team like Ottawa.
