The Coach of the Year field for the 2015 season is a pretty crowded one. There are a bunch of extremely worthy candidates from both conferences. One of those candidates is definitely Coach Bruce Arians, a two-time Coach of the Year winner whose team is currently 13-2 and in second place in the NFC.Arians, though, that he would not vote for himself, but rather coach Ron Rivera for the award. Rivera's team is 14-1 and the only team ahead of Arizona in the NFC . Rivera was the winner back in 2013, sandwiched between the two years in which Arians won (2012 and 2014).Another candidate Arians mentioned is coach Andy Reid. The Chiefs have won nine straight games since falling to 1-5, largely on the strength of ma sive defensive improvement, as we . The Chiefs went from losing by 5.3 points a week to winning by 17.1. That's a ma sive turnaround. They were helped by huge jumps in DVOA (Football Outsiders' Defense-adjusted Value Over Average, which adjusts performance for down, distance, and opponent) on both sides of the ball, but while their defense has been allowing 72.8 fewer yards per game, Giannis Antetokounmpo Jersey the offense is actually averaging 1.0 yard le s over this 7-0 stretch than the season-starting 1-5 slide. So, what gives?Well, a couple things. First of all, the Chiefs had eight turnovers in the first six games of the year while they've only had four in the last seven games (all four of which have come in the last two weeks). Simply not turning the ball over gives you more opportunities to score. Second, they've benefitted from both defensive scores and better average starting field position thanks to a unit that went from forcing 1.0 turnover per game over the first six weeks of the year to forcing 2.6 per game during this recent stretch of improved play.During their 1-5 start, the average Chiefs drive started at their own 26.4-yard line. Of their 73 drives in those six games, Milwaukee Bucks Jersey only five started in opposition territory. That's 6.8 percent. During this 7-0 turnaround, Kansas City has started its average drive on the 36.4-yard line, an improvement of 10 full yards. Additionally, the Chiefs have begun 19 of 78 drives in opposition territority, or 24.4 percent. They had seven such drives the win over the Broncos alone, more than in the first six weeks of the season combined.Arians, Rivera, and Reid aren't even the only worthy candidates, though. Reasonable arguments can be made for a bunch of other coaches:Bill Belichick: The Patriots are 12-3 and have the league's third-best point differential despite injuries to Nate Solder, Dion Lewis, Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola, LeGarrette Blount, and others.Marvin Lewis: The Bengals are 11-4 and have the NFL's fourth-best point differential; their defense has been mostly outstanding, led by a dominant comeback season from Geno Atkins; Lewis and Hue Jackson brought out the best in Andy Dalton.Mike Zimmer: The Vikings, after going 7-9 last season, are 10-5 and playing for the NFC North title this coming Sunday largely on the back of a vastly improved Zimmer-led defense.Todd Bowles: New York's six win increase over last season is the second-largest in the league, as is its 196-point scoring margin increase; the Jets Jabari Parker Jersey went from 21st in Football Outsiders' defensive DVOA to 5th with Bowles coming over for Rex Ryan. Mirza Teletovic Jersey Our esteemed CBSSports.com editor Eric Kay would probably even want to make the case for Washington's Jay Gruden, but I'm not sure that winning arguably the worst division in football by winning 8 games against teams below .500 merits inclusion for an award such as this.Rivera will probably wind up winning, and deservedly so. His team was not expected to be all that good this season, given their 7-8-1 record last year, their lack of offensive weapons aside from (and the preseason injury to ), and what was thought of before the year as a poor offensive line. All Rivera did was get that crew to come out and start the season 14-0 and, if they win this Sunday, they'll wrap up the 1-seed in the NFC. That's a damned impre sive job.
