But the NDIS has introduced funded supports that makes moving out a viable option for differently-abled individuals.
NDIS Individualised Living Option (ILO) is one such support that aids folks to create a conducive home environment. This support doesn’t include the home itself but services like personal care, help with shopping, and cooking are funded. ILO support could include help with setting up and managing your new home, assistance with decision making, help with managing your emotions and behaviour, training for your carers etc.
Costs related to renting a house, home modification, household bills like water and electricity are not covered under ILO support Individualised Living Option is suitable for young adults over 18 who needs help at home for at least 6 hours each day. This service is not recommended if you need more intensive and overnight support.
Individualised Living Option is an alternative to NDIS Supported Independent Living and you cannot get funds for both at the same time. ILO will help you live with your friends, a housemate or a host family. This service gives you the power to choose where you want to live and with whom you want to live with the help of funded supports.
