The Bills arent quitting on Rex Ryan but
The word going around the ' front office in recent weeks, being whispered from the highest reaches of football operations department after a lo s to Pittsburgh, was that the team was quitting on Rex Ryan. It was part of the case they have been making against the coach to ownership for
Robert Quinn Jersey weeks, but it mi ses the point. There was no lack of fight from the Bills' players on Saturday, just their usual allotment of miscues, mistakes, penalties and blunders that in the end undermined their lo s to the and, in the proce s, once again, their season. An ability to execute defensive fundamentals -- Ryan's hallmark -- and make tackles and scrape together any semblance of a run defense is what they lack. They once again found a way to lose, thus ensuring yet another season without a winning record, and provided more ammunition to the many who want Rex and his brother Rob, the defensive coordinator, out of the building. I reported earlier this month that Ryan was coaching for his job and was under consideration to be fired following that lo s, and, in fact, sources said that he was very nearly let go then. I also reported it would take a miracle finish for him to save his job, and, well, there will be no Christmas miracle now. All that's left to determine now is whether owner Terry Pegula opts to
Darrell Henderson Jersey dismi s general manager Doug Whaley along with Ryan. Their always-doomed coupling is in its final days, and blowing a late lead and losing to Miami in overtime in the home finale cements that yet another Bills season will end in inglorious fashion. Make no mistake: The smart move at this point would be to start from scratch, blow the entire toxic building up and bring in a new coaching staff and front office regime. That hasn't been the way Pegula has been leaning, and it doesn't seem to be the kind of drastic move that is in his nature, but there are i sues in personnel and with the roster and the decision-making proce s. It's not just the behind-the-scenes buffoonery on the coaching side that's troubling the Bills, and it's certainly not quarterback who is holding them back
Zach Laskey Jersey . But Saturday's lo s featured so many of the dubious characteristics of recent Bills' football, with them getting manhandled again while allowing 261 rushing yards (Oakland and Pittsburgh recently had their way with this defense as well), with huge runs for the opposing team sandwiched around Buffalo's typical self-destructive tendencies. Much will be made of Ryan not finding a way to get his timeout attempts realized in order to ice Dolphins kicker in the dying seconds of regulation before he could kick a 55-yard tying field goal in a wild scramble. And rightfully
Mark Barron Jersey so. Much will be made of them allowing Miami to march all over the field on the ground in overtime with a backup quarterback. Much will be made of the ridiculous faux attempts at tackling that allowed Miami to rumble at will, with little attempts being made by Buffalo's secondary to actually wrap up the ball carrier. And rightfully so. Plenty will be made of a situation where the Bills reached the 17-yard line and then worked backward out of field goal range. But there was a sequence early in the game that stuck with me as well. The Bills went three-and-out, then Miami took an early 7-0 lead. The Bills responded by putting together what looked to be a scoring drive, but then failed to get a play off on third-and-5, the delay of game penalty moved them back and mi sed the ensuing field-goal try. Then Dolphins rookie , largely a special teams player with just 25 carries all season, tore through Buffalo's defense for a 45-yard score to make it 14-0. And after driving into Miami territory on the next po se sion, the Bills got stuffed on a fourth-and-1. That pretty much sums them up. They continually allowed Miami to turn screen pa ses and checkdowns into big, momentum-shifting gains with their inept tackling. They allowed Moore to drive for tying and winning scores. They had a kicker nearly incite a sideline brawl by running deep into Miami's bench after making a tackle and seemingly getting away with a taunting attempt.
Van Jefferson Jersey Changes are coming. The push for offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn to take over as interim head coach has been going on for weeks. defensive coordinator Teryl Austin will garner consideration as well. Pegula once again has much to sort out during the holiday season.
